About Our Service-
The Keene Fire Department provides the City of Keene aswell as the towns of Surry, Spofford, Chesterfield, Westmoreland, Nelson, Roxbury & Sullivan with ambulance service. The Ambulance service in Cheshire County has changed greatly in the past few years. Adding Paramedics to the region has greatly enhanced the service to a point that crews in the field can do almost everything in the field that the Emergency room would do in the first few minutes of treatment. Some of the skills our members can perform are I.V. Therapy, many medications for Cardiac, Respiratory,or other emergencies, advanced airway management, and Advanced Pediatric and Cardiac Life Support.
Staffing-
Unlike many full time services, the Keene Fire Department staffs all 3 of our Ambulances with 3 crew members, adding to the quality of care you recieve. Every member of the Keene Fire Department is a nationally certified EMT-B and Many are EMT-I certified, providing many, but not all of the skills of a paramedic.
Intercepts-
With the addition of ALS (Advanced Life Support) Paramedic service to the area, many of the small volunteer towns around can not keep up with the level of Paramedic for there community. The City of Keene provides Paramedic intercepts to these towns so that they too can have the best care for patients. This intercept also provides the skills upkeep and experience our Paramedics need. In the past few years you have probably seen a white & red pickup with "Fire Rescue" on the side speeding all over the county, that vehicle is our current Paramedic intercept vehicle.
